'Possessing A Supernatural Mind'

'Possessing A Supernatural Mind'

The New Testament contains many mystical, miraculous, supernatural commands to the born-again child of God that are overlooked because they are not fully understood by the human mind and therefore are often not addressed in the normal course of Bible teaching/preaching.

For instance: 'Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus' (Philippians 2:5) The example of the outworking of the mind of Christ follows in v.6-8 but the way to develop this 'Mind of Christ' is not found within the context of the passage. Another similar command is found in Romans 13:14: 'But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ and make not provision for the flesh to fulfill the lusts thereof.

Here again there is no instruction in the immediate context explaining how we can in fact 'Put on the Lord Jesus Christ'. This is just one of the many 'Put ons' we are commanded to accomplish and most are without explanation or teaching on just how to perform these mystical, miraculous, supernatural feats of the Christian life!

However, if we are to enjoy the blessings of the abundant life and continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we must move onward and upward by attaining the lofty goals set before us which includes 'Possessing  A Supernatural Mind' by letting the mind of Christ be in us and control our very thought pattern throughout the day.

This can only happen as we digest His precious Word, making it our very spiritual food upon which we feast as the prophet Jeremiah masterfully proclaimed: 'Thy Words were found and I did eat them; and Thy Word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart; for am called by Thy name O Lord God of Hosts.' (Jeremiah 15:16)
This is the pathway to to 'Possessing A Supernatural Mind' the very mind of Christ!!

Jeremiah was not alone in knowing the way to have the mind of Christ, no, from the very beginning of the nation of Israel this mystical phenomenon was available to the masses for Moses commanded the people of Israel to do the very same thing in Deuteronomy 6:6-9:
'And these Words, which I command thee this day shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sit in thine house, and when thou walk by the way, and when thou lie down, and when thou rise up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.'
The supernatural mind of Christ was available to these Israelites, yes, they too could have had the blessing of 'Possessing A Supernatural Mind'!!

Joshua, the one who followed in Moses' steps as the leader of Israel, gave us one of the most clear and concise instruction on how to possess a Supernatural Mind in Joshua 1:8:
'This Book of the Law shall not depart out of thy mouth but thou shalt meditate therein da and night, that thou may observe to do according to all that is written therein, for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success.'

Here, in a nutshell, Joshua spells out the formula for spiritual success! In order for the child of God to have the ability to perform 'all that is written' in the Word of God, he must practice the now almost forgotten art of meditation on the Word of God! It is through this practice that the child of God receives the mind of Christ, it is through memory and meditation on the Word of God the child of God is 'renewed in the spirit of his mind'.

Yes, it is through this miraculous work of the child of God that he is capable of 'Possesssing A Supernatural Mind'! It is the Supernatural Mind that develops the faith to believe the supernatural claims of Scripture, it is the Supernatural Mind that grasps hold of the truths of the Word of God that seem impossible to the natural mind!

In the Psalms the teaching of memory/meditation intensifies beginning in Psalm 1:2 where David vividly describes the practice of the 'Blessed Man':
'But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law doth he meditate day and night.' Meditation both day and night is what it takes to Possess the Supernatural Mind as David here describes the man who obeys the previous commands given by Moses (Deuteronomy 6:6-9) and Joshua (Joshua 1:8).

Spiritual success abounds in the life of this 'Blessed Man' as described in v.3: 'And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.' Psalm 119:11, 15, 23, 48, 78, 97, 99, 148 are additional verses emphasizing memory/meditation on the Word of God and the spiritual benefits gained through obedience to this Supernatural practice!

The one that impresses my memory is (v.97) where the Psalmist exclaims:
'O how love I The Law! It is my meditation all the day.'
In this short but precise verse of Scripture the whole essence of worship is portrayed as the Psalmist shows his full devotion to the Word of God through his intense love for the Word and his continual focus on the Word throughout his day.

Solomon, following in his father David's footsteps also stresses the importance of memory/meditation on the Commandments of the Word of God in the following passages: Proverb 2:1, 3:1-4, 4:1-4, 4:20-22, 6:20-23, 7:1-3, 22:17-21. Seven passages of Scripture taken from the Wisdom book of the Bible, penned by the wisest man of his time for our instruction, emphasizes the necessity to keep the Word of God within us so that we might have the very wisdom of God!

The passage in Proverbs that is especially significant as it develops the teaching of Moses in Deuteronomy 6:6-9 by underscoring the results of memory/meditation is Proverbs 6:20-23. First of all memory/meditation will provide direction: 'When thou go it shall lead thee', secondly memory/meditation 'Shall keep thee' during the hours we are asleep.

Meditating on the Word of God will indeed safeguard the mind during this valuable time when we sleep for our minds are unconsciously busy and can be renewed if we will supply it with meditation before we fall asleep. The third benefit found in this passage is the communication we receive from the Spirit during the time we are awake if we will meditate on the Word of God!

Yes, it is through meditation on the Word that we can indeed 'Abide in Christ' and maintain the continual communion with Him as we go about performing our Spirit-led ministry of intercessory prayer in direct communion with the Master! This foundational teaching of the Old Testament provides the basis for the teaching of the New Testament which on the surface might seem to be non-existent to the casual observer!

However, the Lord Jesus Christ made some powerful statements in His teaching that are not just mere indicators, but instead point directly to the great need for the child of God to digest/memorize/meditate on His precious Word! Since Jesus is the Word (John 1:1-3) it should follow that if we want His mind we must put Him/His Word into our very being! He also said: 'If ye abide in Me and My Words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you.' (John 15:7) Here the Lord teaches the necessity of the Word abiding within the child of God as a prerequisite for answered prayer!

But, in John 6:63 this astounding statement is given to us from the Lord which is the bottom-line on the great spiritual power of the indwelling Word of God: 'The WORDS that I speak unto you, they are SPIRIT they are LIFE'. Yes, the very written Words of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ are themselves transformed into the very Spirit and Life of Christ!

This has to be one of the most powerful statements made by the Lord in the New Testament concerning the Supernatural Quality of the Word of God! Do you want to be filled with the Spirit? Get filled with the Word of God! Moreover, get filled with the very spoken Words of Jesus! He literally spoke the Words that can give us the Spirit and give us Life!

I'll never forget the time just after I got saved the Lord by His Spirit gave me a supernatural hunger for His Word and I was transformed from a drug-abusing alcoholic into a soul-winner for the Lord through this tremendous activity of memorizing/meditating on the Word of God.

I tried to figure out just how His Word could totally change my life, literally 'throw me into culture shock' as the more I memorized the more I hungered for the Word and the more mystifying the whole scenario seemed, I was consumed with trying to figure out how God could bring to pass the transformation of an individual who was totally consumed with life-controlling habits that 'no man could tame' and yet this seemingly simple practice of memorizing the Bible changed me from within.

It wasn't until I discovered the Words of the Lord Jesus Christ in John 6:63 that I began to understand this powerful and miraculous phenomenon of God, the Word internalized in a born-again child of God actually becomes the energizing power of the Holy Spirit, it gives the Christian the ability to 'Possess A Supernatural Mind!

In Colosssians 3:16 Paul continues this vital teaching: 'Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.'  This simple command supplies us with the imperative to immediately begin placing the Word within our being and thereby expecting by faith that the Lord will give us the ministry of teaching and admonishing one another by His Spirit that is now providing the source of 'Possessing A Supernatural Mind' for a supernatural ministry to others.

The parallel passage found in Ephesians 5:18,19 says this: 'And be not drunk with wine wherein is excess but be filled with the Spirit, Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.' Here, instead of being commanded to 'Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly' we are commanded to 'Be filled with the Spirit' but the outcome is the same 'Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs' are formed within us and we in turn perform ministry to one another and ourselves!

Therefore, filling with the Word and filling with the Spirit provide the same result underlining what the Lord said in John 6:63: 'The Words that I speak unto you they are Spirit they are Life'!! Do you want to be filled with the Spirit? Do you want to Possess A Supernatural Mind? Do you want to have the Mind of Christ? Do you want to 'Put on the Lord Jesus Christ? Then fill yourself with the Supernatural Word of God and watch your faith grow in leaps and bounds, the vital necessity for growth in the Christian life, 'For without faith it is impossible to please God'!!
