“On the Hunt”
The actual hunt that we are going to
examine has been ‘on’ since the fall of man. But, as we draw nearer to the Lord
Jesus Christ’s return ‘the hunt’ has intensified many times over as morality
has continued to fall deeper and deeper due to the devil’s systematic assault
upon man and his vicious hatred for Biblical holy living.
‘The hunt’ that is clearly described in
the book of Proverbs involves the ‘strange woman’ as she seductively pursues
the man who she is targeting with her manifold efforts and abilities. These
wicked characteristics are graphically described in the book of Proverbs for
they have not changed since the beginning of time.
Since the Lord saved me a little over
three decades ago this phenomenon has advanced in great measure as the world we
live in has pushed the envelope of so-called womanhood over the top. When I was
a young man it was always the man’s certain duty to be the one that was ‘On the
hunt’. He was the pursuer of the woman.
But, during the years (1960-70’s) leading
up to my salvation things began to turn around. And, more and more the woman
has become the aggressor, the initiator of ‘the hunt’, which was and is due, to
a certain degree, to the woman’s liberation movement and the circumstances that
have accompanied this three to four decade push.
But, the Lord is way ahead of what has
been happening in our 21st century culture. This is nothing new to
Him as He has underlined the characteristics of the ‘strange woman’ and her
actions and resulting consequences in seducing men through the pen of King
Solomon almost three millennia ago in the book of Proverbs.
He taught his sons exactly how to
recognize and get the victory over those women who go ‘On the hunt’ attempting
to bring down the man who is set upon living for the Lord. Solomon used the two
words ‘my son’ over twenty times to instruct the next generation concerning
many different areas of Godly living.
When Solomon’s instructive admonitions
concerning the ‘strange woman’ are analyzed a clear pattern emerges describing
the tactics that she employs when ‘On the hunt’. But, in addition to her
devilish plans to bring men under her influence, he also provides a simple plan
for victory over the temptations she displays.
In five separate Proverbs (2, 5, 6, 7, 23)
Solomon gives the young man thorough instruction concerning the topic of sexual
temptation and how it is brought to pass through the activities of ‘the strange
woman’ who is ‘On the hunt.’ The following outline categorizes his teaching.
Men, BEWARE of the woman who is a:

2. Remove thy way

10. Keep thy father’s commandment and forsake not the law of

While many of the
characteristics of the ‘strange woman’ are openly prevalent in many of the
women in today’s culture, it certainly does not necessarily follow that every
woman who displays one or two of these characteristics is ‘On the hunt’.
However, the pattern is clear and modesty and Godliness have been forsaken by
many in order to follow the immoral trends that have taken over our culture.
Solomon offers
the most thorough instruction on this subject and it is likely he learned from
his mistakes and his father David. David offers a ‘nutshell’ cure for holy
living in Psalm 119:
“Wherewithal shall a
young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to Thy Word. With
my whole heart have I sought Thee: O let me not wander from Thy Commandments.
Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against Thee.” (Psalm
119:9-11)
This brief but powerful formula for
holy living underlines the ONLY method for victory. Although David and Solomon
did not know that the Word of God incarnate is the Lord Jesus Christ in reality
their recommendations are the same as the New Testament command:
“Put ye on the Lord
Jesus Christ and make not provision for the flesh to fulfill the lusts
thereof.”
(Romans 13:14)
They in essence were teaching this same simple formula for victory…Victory
in Jesus!!
